Here We Go

(December 19-20, 2011)

The alarm went off at 3:15 am.  It was go time.  My roommates spent our free time the day before packing as much as we could.  We got ready as quickly as we could at 3:30 in the morning.  We got to the meeting place at about 4:15.  We soon found out that we were 45 minutes early.  Awesome.

After waiting in the cold, we were finally on buses headed to the Salt Lake airport with about 100 other missionaries going to various parts of the world.  It was getting real now.  We were headed off to the real world.  Were we prepared?  We’d soon find out.

There were 18 of us going to South Carolina.  We were quite the sight.  Needless to say, we got a lot of looks.  In our stop in Dallas/Ft. Worth, a guy took us to lunch.  That was way awesome and nice.

After our layover in Dallas/Ft. Worth, we landed in Columbia, SC.  We were greeted by the friendly smiles of the Mission President and his wife (the people in charge of the South Carolina Columbia Mission).  We went and had some of the best food I have had in recent (sorry MTC, the food wasn’t that good).  Then it was bed time.  Glorious bed time.

In the morning we went to the Columbia, SC Temple grounds.  That was awesome.  It’s a beautiful building.

For the rest of the day, we had trainings.  Did I stay awake? It was a fight to the end. But I did!

The MTC Experience

(November 30-December 18)

On November 30th, I entered the Missionary Training Center and started a new chapter in my life-a new chapter involving eating cereal for breakfast everyday for 2 years.  My first moring there, I woke up at 6:30am and had no idea where I was or why I was waking up so early.  Then I remembered I was a missionary now and have to wake up at 6:30 every day.  Fantastic.

For the next 2 and a half weeks or so, my days were filled with waking up at 6:30, standing in line to take a cold shower, classes, study time, and practicing teaching time.  It doesn’t sound that fun, but trust me, it was awesome.

The time flew by.  Before we knew it, it was time to leave the MTC and Go to South Caroline.  It was adventure time!

Here I go

Well, it’s that time of year. Tomorrow I will be flying off to Utah to begin my mission. Ultimately, I will be serving in South Carolina, but I need to do a few weeks of training at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT.

I will be gone for 2 years. That’s kinda a long time. During that 2 years I won’t be using Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or any other internet whatchamacallems. My brother will be updating some of these things for me—so you can follow some of my adventures during the 2 years. I’ll send him pictures and little notes to post. So if you see any activity from me, it’s not really me.

If you feel so inclined to, write me a letter every once in a while. I sure would enjoy it.

You’ve been awesome. See you in 2.

Me waving at you

this is some pretty amazing technology here. can’t wait to see what it will turn into. reminds me of star wars.
